- A Glimmer on the Outskirts pressed on black wax
In January 2017, after starring in Ethan Hawke’s critically adored biopic, Blaze, singer-songwriter Ben Dickey picked up a pen. “I tend to write in clusters,” Dickey says in an interview with Rolling Stone. “When I made Blaze I stopped doing that, which spooked me. So when I corked that channel, a lot of that energy had built up.” With that energy, Dickey linked with legendary guitarist (and Blaze co-star) Charlie Sexton to record ten of the songs he had written during the post-Blaze spree. The result, 2019’s A Glimmer on the Outskirts, the inaugural release on Hawke’s imprint SexHawkeBlack, hums with the gumption and grace synonymous with Texarkana sound; and, in ways big and small, revives Foley’s own philosophies of life, loss, and love. The first bars of album-opener "The Bizzy Waltz" announce it clearly: Ben Dickey has arrived and he's got something to say.
